notes from Featherlady Studio - wildlife art of Northwest artist Julie Thompson
I came here via Alyson's biz blog. Your artwork is really unique; I've never seen anything like it before. I'm sure the Pacific Northwest must provide you with wonderful inspiration. Im curious how you treat the feathers for them to hold paint.~Sue O'Kieffehttp://sacred-circle-mandalas.blogspot.com
Hi Sue,I popped over to your blog - your mandalas are exquisite!!I spray the feathers with a bit of Krylon acrylic spray, which has about the same effect as hairspray but provides ~just enough~ stiffness to make them easier to work with. The dangers of splitting are always there though, it just takes practice and a light touch.
I came here through Sue O'Kieffe's site ... I have never seen anything like this before.Your work is amazing! I spent quite a bit of time going through your website to see the different work you do.I really enjoy this!! Hope you did well at the show.~ Diane Clancywww.dianeclancy.com/blog
